چکیده

N is a major cause of acute gastroenteritis in humans and is genetically classified into 7 genogroups (GI–GVII). Among them, norovirus GI, GII, and GIV infect humans, and human norovirus (HuNoV) has many genotypes (1). GII viruses are common and have 22 confirmed genotypes (1). In Infectious Diseases Weekly Report (https://www. niid.go.jp/niid/en/idwr-e.html), the Japanese national surveillance system reports the number of patients with acute gastroenteritis and their pathogenic agents who were examined at clinics or hospitals of the sentinel surveillance medical institutes (≈3,000 institutions). This report indicated that HuNoV GII.2 was the third or fourth most prevalent genotype during the past 5 seasons (2011–2016), but became the predominant strain during the 2016–17 season. Of note, the total number of children with acute gastroenteritis in 2016–17 was the second largest over the past 11 epidemiologic seasons (2,3). On the basis of these observations, we used the full length of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) region and capsid (VP1) gene to study the phylogeny of HuNoV strains detected during 2016–17 winter season (2016 strains). We also determined the immunoreactivities of the variant strains by various immunochromatography (IC) kits and the bioluminescent enzyme immunoassay (BLEIA).

Phylogeny and Immunoreactivity of Norovirus GII.P16-GII.2, Japan, Winter 2016–17

During the 2016-17 winter season in Japan, human norovirus GII.P16-GII.2 strains (2016 strains) caused large outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis. Phylogenetic analyses suggested that the 2016 strains derived from the GII.2 strains detected during 2010-12. Immunochromatography between 2016 strains and the pre-2016 GII.2 strains showed similar reactivity.

Complete Genome Sequence of a GII.17 Norovirus Isolated from a Rhesus Monkey in China

The previously silent GII.17 norovirus was found to be the predominant genotype causing major epidemics in China in the 2014-2015 winter epidemic season. We report here the complete genomic sequence of a GII.17 norovirus (mky/GII.17/KM1509/CHN/2015) that infected rhesus monkeys at a monkey farm in southwestern China.

Molecular Epidemiology of Human Norovirus in Korea in 2013

Norovirus is a major cause of acute gastroenteritis. The molecular epidemiology of norovirus exhibits temporal and geographical fluctuations, and new variants of the GII.4 genotype emerge every 2-3 years to cause global epidemics of acute gastroenteritis. We investigated GI and GII genotypes of human norovirus strains isolated from patients with acute gastroenteritis in Korea in 2013. Norovirus...

Norovirus GII.17 as Major Epidemic Strain in Italy, Winter 2015–16

In winter 2015-16, norovirus GII.17 Kawasaki 2014 emerged as a cause of sporadic gastroenteritis in children in Italy. Median patient age was higher for those with GII.17 than GII.4 infection (55 vs. 24 months), suggesting limited cross-protection for older children.

Influence of Novel Norovirus GII.4 Variants on Gastroenteritis Outbreak Dynamics in Alberta and the Northern Territories, Canada between 2000 and 2008

BACKGROUND Norovirus GII.4 is the predominant genotype circulating worldwide over the last decade causing 80% of all norovirus outbreaks with new GII.4 variants reported in parallel with periodic epidemic waves of norovirus outbreaks. The circulating new GII.4 variants and the epidemiology of norovirus outbreaks in Alberta, Canada have not been described. Our hypothesis is that the periodic epi...
